Sleeping bag protection

The Bedroll Protector from Blackstone Outdoor Gear addresses the need to keep your sleeping bag dry. Wet sleeping bags are no fun. Down bags are light, warm, and pack down to small sizes, but quickly turn useless when wet. It's a reinforced plastic (poly) bag measuring 3 feet by 8 feet, with a zipper on 3 sides. Put your sleeping bag and pad inside, zip up, roll up and you have a mostly waterproof storage and transport bag. When you get to the campsite, unroll and unzip and enjoy a dry bag. This isn't a bivy sack, which is designed to be a breathable sleeping bag cover, with an awning over your head. The Bedroll Protector isn't breathable, so you can't zip it up while sleeping; but it does cost a lot less. The zipper isn't waterproof, so you may still need a dry bag for that canoe trip. If you have a down bag, you probably value weight and would leave this protector behind for long trips - unless you forgo the tent and carry a tarp or rainfly if rain is expected. Car campers sleeping under the stars will get a lot of use from the Bedroll Protector.
