Pictures of Lake Atitlan or Lago Atitlan, Guatemala. Volcanoes surround this high elevation lake. It's a very relaxing area. Stay in small guesthouses surrounding the lake and eat in candlelight as the only source of electricity in the smallest villages is solar or generator. The villages are reached via small boats instead of roads. Each village has a unique textile pattern and many have different languages. The people of these villages speak in their native tongue; Spanish is their second language. The main town to reach the smaller villages is Panajachel. It sits at the bottom of very steep roadway on the edge of Lake Atitlan.
